A look at the top boys and girls bowlers in the NewsTribune area this winter, including bowlers from La Salle-Peru, St. Bede, Hall-Putnam County and Mendota.

Mendota junior Landon Bauer is the 2022-23 NewsTribune Boys Bowler of the Year after leading the area in average and becoming the first Mendota bowler to advance to the second day at state.

La Salle-Peru senior Chance Hank won the championship of Saturday's L-P Boys Bowling Regional, while Yorkville captured the team championship ahead of Minooka, Joliet West and L-P.

Teams from Reed Custer, Joliet Central, Joliet West, Minooka, Ottawa, St. Bede, Princeton, Plainfield South, Streator, Yorkville and L-P competed in the Regional Bowling meet on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023 at the Illinois Valley Super Bowl in Peru.

The La Salle-Peru boys and girls bowling teams claimed the team titles at their own Cavalier Classic on Saturday, while Streator's Brady Grabowski and St. Bede's Aubree Acuncius took the individual titles.

With a unique two-handed style, St. Bede senior Trenton Acuncius had a dominant senior season, rolling to an area-best 222 average and a seventh-place finish at the state tournament to earn NewsTribune Boys Bowler of the Year.

This Saturday morning when 13 high school boys bowling teams arrive at Channahon Lanes to compete in the IHSA’s Minooka Regional, the La Salle-Peru Cavaliers will be one of them. The Streator Bowlin’ Bulldogs will not.
