The La Salle-Peru Cavaliers boys basketball team pulled off a pair of upsets to claim a second straight regional title and heads into the 3A Washington Sectional in a familiar role - the underdogs.

La Salle-Peru junior Kiely Domyancich placed fifth and Ottawa junior Juliana Thrush sixth to earn medals at IHSA Girls Wrestling State Finals on Saturday at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington.

The Bishop McNamara boys basketball team won the Class 2A Fieldcrest Regional championship game on Friday, beating the host Knights 61-45.

A late steal and layup from Erick Sotelo broke a scoring drought for both teams and ultimately proved to be the game-winner as L-P upset Streator for the championship of the 3A La Salle-Peru Regional.

There may have been some doubters outside the Tigers' camp they would not go far in the postseason and Princeton’s regional streak would come to an end. Look at them now. They strung 11 straight wins, including Friday’s 59-53 win over Seneca to claim their 4th straight regional

L-P beat Streator 49-46 to win the Class 3A Regional title on Friday, Feb. 28, 2025 in Sellett Gymnasium at L-P High School. L-P will play in the Class 3A Sectional on Wednesday, March 5, at Washington High School.

The opening day of the IHSA Girls Wrestling State Finals was contested Friday morning, with Ottawa's Juliana Thrush, La Salle-Peru's Kiely Domyancich, and Seneca's Catalina Pacheco and Sammie Greisen advancing to the final day.

Princeton got 25 points from its top two guns, Noah LaPorte (13) and Jordan Reinhardt (12), but got contributions from many sources in Wednesday’s 54-47 regional semifinal win over Mendota. Seneca was detailed oriented in its 74-59 win over Sandwich.
