Lake Barrington man charged in Marseilles teen drug death

A 55-year-old Lake Barrington man was arrested Friday morning in Chicago and charged with drug-induced homicide after authorities said he delivered drugs that contributed to a 15-year-old boy’s death.

Brian K. Mulcahy will be held at the La Salle County Jail on a $1 million bond, meaning he needs to post $100,000 for his release. He was arrested about 9 a.m. at 4759 N. Kedzie Ave. in Chicago by members of the U.S. Marshals Service fugitive task force from the La Salle County Sheriff’s Office.

Marseilles police said they responded in April to the 200 block of East Bluff Street for an unresponsive 15-year-old boy. An autopsy from the La Salle County Coroner’s Office showed the boy died as a result of a lethal dose of heroin and fentanyl.

After an investigation, Marseilles and La Salle County authorities said they believe Mulcahy delivered the drugs that led to the teenager’s death.

If found guilty of these Class X felony charges, Mulcahy could face six to 30 years in prison and cannot be sentenced to probation.

The case is assigned to La Salle County Circuit Judge Cynthia M. Raccuglia. As of Friday morning, La Salle County authorities were scrambling to bring Mulcahy before a judge to address the issue of legal representation before court was adjourned for the weekend. It was not clear whether Mulcahy could be remanded immediately.
