Cook County’s second-installment property tax bills arriving

Are you paying the Tax Man more this year? Look closely: Maybe your bill rose because your home is worth more, and not because your tax rates have climbed. That was case for several cities.

Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas has mailed out nearly 1.8 million, second-installment property tax bills. Payments are due Oct. 1.

The new bills will bring the total amount billed countywide for 2020 to more than $16.1 billion, an increase of more than 3.4% from last year, a news release stated. A recent analysis by the Treasurer’s Office found the tax increase is hitting commercial property owners and Black and Latino suburban property owners the hardest (www.cookcountytreasurer.com/taxbillanalysisandstatistics.aspx).
