High school sports roundup for Saturday, Aug. 28: Glenbard West girls volleyball edges Montini to win Wheaton North tournament

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Wheaton North Tournament

Glenbard West defeated Montini 17-25, 25-23, 25-23 to win the championship of the Wheaton North Blue and Gold tournament on Saturday. Glenbard West earlier beat Wheaton North 25-23, 23-25, 25-19 in the semifinals.

Benet placed third at the Wheaton North tournament. Benet beat Romeoville 25-7, 26-24, was defeated by Montini 25-22, 25-14 in the semifinals and defeated Wheaton North 25-16, 25-7.

Wheaton North beat Kaneland 25-19, 25-19. Audrey Brcka had eight kills, four blocks and three digs, Ella Brend 10 digs and Paige Syswerda 19 assists. Wheaton North lost to Glenbard West, Brcka recording 16 kills and Mia Benson 11 digs for the Falcons. Brcka had six kills, five digs and three blocks in the loss to Benet.

Glenbard East

Manning had 20 kills and 22 digs, Campuzano 15 digs and 19 assists and Bylsma 11 digs and 38 assists for the Rams (0-6) at the Oswego East/Metea Valley Tournament.

Plainfield North Crimson Classic

Hinsdale Central defeated Wheaton Warrenville South 16-25, 25-22, 16-14 in the third-place match at the Plainfield North Crimson Classic.

Earlier, for the second time this week WW South beat No. 1-ranked Marist in three sets, this time 25-11, 25-27, 25-23. WW South’s Darby Harris was named to the All-Tournament team.

BOYS SOCCER

Glenbard West 2, Glenbard East 1

Timothy Christian 6, Momence 1

Chris Cruz had two goals and three assists for the Trojans. Ethan Lemkuil, Caleb Hoekstra and Hendrik DeVries also scored goals.

Timothy Christian 9, Peotone 1

Cruz had three goals and an assist for the Trojans. Cruz earned all-tournament at the Bradley-Bourbonnais Tournament with six goals and four assists over three games.
