High school sports roundup for Thursday, May 13: Mallory Qualizza, Emily Petring connection in OT keeps Downers Grove South soccer unbeaten

GIRLS SOCCER

Downers Grove South 3, Morton 2

Mallory Qualizza scored the game-winning goal on a cross from Emily Petring with 4:46 left in the first half of overtime as the Mustangs ran their unbeaten record to 9-0.

Petring’s score off a corner kick with 14:03 left tied it 2-2. Marley Davis earlier had a score from the 25-yard line at 35:57 for 1-0 Mustangs’ lead.

Oak Park-River Forest 3, Hinsdale Central 2 (2OT)

Montini 2, Regina Dominican 1

Alivia Gianatasio scored a goal assisted by Maren Hoovel and Sawyer White added an unassisted goal for Montini. Franca Finch had nine saves in goal.

BASEBALL

Nazareth 10, Glenbrook North 0

Lucas Smith went 2-for-4 with four RBIs, Wylder Guido 2-for-2 with an RBI, Luca Fiore 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Anthony Milano had an RBI and two walks for Nazareth (17-6). Luca Fiore struck out three over two innings.

St. Francis 2, Timothy Christian 0

Sophomore Donald Tober struck out 12 batters for Timothy Christian. The Trojans beat St. Edward 6-2 on Monday and 9-3 on Tuesday. Ben Jones pitched six strong innings and CJ James had five RBIs on Tuesday.

Wheaton Academy 2, Westmont 0

Bryce Swift struck out nine over four innings, allowing just two hits in his first appearance of the season after returning from a wrist injury. At the plate Alex Valdez went 2-for-3 with a single and double and Wilbert Delgado went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

SOFTBALL

Wheaton North 3, St. Charles North 2

Wheaton North’s Gabrielle Langlois bunted in the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh and Emily Miller doubled a runner off first base on a fly ball to right field for the game-ending double play. Ellie Hubbard was 2-for-3 with a double and run scored and Annie Sullivan 2-for-3 with a double.

Wheaton Warrenville South 4, Geneva 1

Katie Jensen, Parker Leonard and Grace Butler each went 2-for-4, Maggie Reinert had a double and RBI and Katey Pierce a sacrifice fly for the Tigers, who improved to 5-3 in the DuKane Conference.

Montini 9, Providence 0

Kora Navarro, Brooke Kuczynski both homered, Erin Grimsley doubled in two runs, and Taylor Utrata scored three times for the Lady Broncos.

Downers Grove South 5, Downers Grove North 1

Brynn Dvoracek homered for the Mustangs at Downers Grove North.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Bartlett d. Glenbard East 25-27, 25-13, 25-18

Tyler Santos had nine kills and four digs, Jack Austin 10 kills, Connor Soto 33 assists and Griffen Skoumal six kills for the Rams (7-5).
