The Ottawa baseball team used a go-ahead, two-run single by Logan Cottingham in the sixth inning to earn a come-from-behind 8-5 victory over Plano at King Field in Ottawa on Tuesday.
Aaron Sovern, who has been at Yorkville Christian for 13 years, started the boys basketball program there in the 2014-2015 school year and coached the Mustangs to the 2022 Class 1A state championship, is stepping down as coach and athletic director to move to Arizona.

Owen Horeni swept the 800 and 1,600 to lead Yorkville's boys track and field team to second place at the Southwest Prairie Conference meet and Sandwich baseball was a winner in Friday's roundup.

Gabe Sanders threw six shutout innings to lead Yorkville baseball past Geneva in its season opener, Azaleah Salgado recorded a hat trick in a Plano soccer win and Newark baseball was also a winner in Thursday's roundup.
Yorkville Christian senior guard and SIU-Edwardsville commit Jayden Riley, who became the second player in program history to score 2,000 career points and led the Mustangs to 23 wins, regional title and sectional final, is the Record Newspapers Player of the Year.
