The Midland girls basketball team received a huge 3-pointer from senior Emma Franks in the final minutes of a 52-45 victory over Yorkville Christian in the Class 1A Serena Regional championship game om Thursday. It's the Timberwolves first postseason title since 1999.

Furman commit Emma Briggs scored Benet's first 17 points and finished with a career-best 36 points – and the top-seeded Redwings needed every last one to overcome eighth-seeded Oswego East 58-50 in the Class 4A Benet Regional final.

Oswego East's Aubrey Lamberti went coast-to-coast off a Neuqua Valley miss in the final 10 seconds, her short runner rolling into the basket as time expired to give the Wolves a thrilling 35-33 win in a Class 4A Benet Regional semifinal.

The Ottawa girls basketball team shook off a slow start to top Plano 43-21 in the semifinals of the Class 3A La Salle-Peru Regional semifinals on Monday night. The Pirates will play Sterling for the championship at 6 p.m. Thursday.
