A water main has ruptured in the downtown area of St. Charles, backing up traffic while the city works on repairs.
The break in the pipes occurred on Cedar Street, just east of North Third Street downtown.

Crews will begin repairing the water main starting around 7 p.m. Wednesday. The work is expected to continue until Friday afternoon.
Throughout the construction period, the roadway is expected to remain closed.
City officials said local parking lots will remain open during the repairs.
