Police and drug agents said they seized about 2 ounces of heroin during a traffic stop Tuesday in rural La Salle.
Officers with the La Salle Police Department, La Salle County Sheriff’s Office and Tri-County Drug Enforcement Narcotics Team conducted a traffic stop at 10:38 a.m. Tuesday on a vehicle driven by Joshua McKinley near Route 6 and East 709th Road in La Salle.
Tri-DENT said in a news release that McKinley was known to have a suspended driver’s license. Police said that they found a syringe on his person after the arrest, while their subsequent search of the vehicle also resulted about 52 grams of drugs they suspected to be heroin/fentanyl.
McKinley was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance (heroin) with intent to deliver. If convicted of those charges, McKinley faces a sentence of anywhere from six to 30 years in prison.
McKinley was taken to the La Salle Police Department, where he was processed and given a notice to appear in La Salle County Circuit Court.
