Oglesby Commissioner Don Finley announced his resignation at Monday night’s regular Oglesby City Council meeting, stepping down from his position as early as Jan. 6.
Finley has served in various roles including as the former mayor, has been managing the city’s police, fire and ambulance departments since the May departure of Commissioner Terry Eutis.
Hilary Moyle, the only candidate who submitted paperwork to run for the commissioner’s seat in the April 1 election, now will most likely get the opportunity to assume the role months ahead of schedule.
Mayor Jason Curran said since she is the only one to file paperwork, she also will get the opportunity to complete Eutis' term.
However, he said nothing is final yet and he needs to discuss the matter more with the other commissioners and Moyle.
Details on the exact timing of Finley’s resignation still are being finalized, but he confirmed his final meeting will be 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6.
“I want to thank the commissioners and mayor for the opportunity to serve the citizens of Oglesby once again,” Finley said during Monday’s meeting.
