Mendota child abduction attempt unfounded

A reported child abduction attempt in Mendota that was shared repeatedly on social media was determined to be unfounded.

The Mendota Police Department said Thursday that it received a complaint about an alleged incident in the 800 block of Illinois Avenue.

After reviewing hours of surveillance footage and interviewing residents, police determined that the incident didn’t occur and that there never was a threat to the public.
