Boy found after extensive search near Wallace School

Several crews responded to hours-long search

An AT&T worker helps authorities while using binoculars to try to locate a missing juvenile male along East 15th Road near Wallace Grade School on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2023 north of Ottawa. Wallace Fire Department, Illinois State Police and Ottawa Police Department were called to the school shortly after a student who ran ran out of the school and into a cornfield.

A number of police and other agencies found a boy Wednesday at East 16th and North 32nd roads after he ran out of Wallace School, north of Ottawa, and into a cornfield.

Police responded after 1 p.m. and the boy was found about 5 p.m.

Police departments and other agencies set up a two-mile radius perimeter near the school, utilizing drones and dogs to locate the boy. An AT&T worker was used a bucket truck with binoculars to help find him.

Traffic on North 33rd Road was diverted while the search was ongoing.
