FCW, Dwight record critical fifth wins; Fieldcrest falls: The Times Friday Roundup

Serena boys soccer advances; Sandwich ends season in regional

Flanagan-Cornell/Woodland 42, Peoria Heights 30: At Peoria Heights, the Falcons (5-3) earned the Illinois 8-man Football Association victory over the Patriots.

Logan Ruddy ran for 178 yards and four touchdowns for DCW, with Brezdyn Simons adding 72 yards and another score. The two also hooked up for a 34-yard, Simons-to-Ruddy touchdown pass.

Gibson City/Melvin/Sibley 34, Fieldcrest 6: At Gibson City, the Knights (1-7, 0-3) trailed 21-0 at halftime in the Heart of Central Illinois Medium Division loss to the Falcons.

Lucas Anson had 134 yards on 26 carries for Fieldcrest, while Zach Overocker rushed for 69 yards and a TD.

Dwight 28, Warrensburg-Latham 13: At Dwight, the Trojans improved to 5-3 and likely locked up a playoff bid with the win over the Cardinals.

Rochelle 42, Ottawa 3: At Rochelle, the visiting Pirates (2-6 overall, 0-5 Interstate 8) lost their sixth straight while the Hubs (5-3, 3-2) likely punched their ticket to the postseason.

Lucas Farabaugh kicked a 46-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter, believed to be the longest ever at the Doug Creason Athletic Complex and second-longest in Ottawa history.

Ethan Poutre and Wes Weatherford led the Pirates with 43 and 37 respective yards rushing. Defensively, Poutre had nine tackles, followed by Logan Mills with seven.

Woodstock North 55, Sandwich 6: At Sandwich, the host Indians (2-6 overall, 2-4 Kishwaukee River) suffered the home defeat.

Nick Michalek scored Sandwich’s lone touchdown on a 5-yard run.

Girls tennis

Ottawa sending two doubles teams to state: At the Class 1A Ottawa Sectional, the host Pirates sent a pair of doubles teams on to the upcoming IHSA State Finals Tournament in suburban Chicago.

The team of Zulee Moreland and Yaquelin Hernandez-Solis started the sectional 3-0 to make the championship match, while the tandem of Rylee Harsted and Brooklyn Byone opened 2-1 to earn a place in the third-place match. The top four singles players and doubles teams all advance.

The Streator doubles team of Remy Coley and Madison Bedeker, Bulldogs singles player Isabell Gutierrez and Ottawa’s Savannah Frederickson earned a single sectional victory.

Boys soccer

Serena 2, Earlville 1: At Serena in the Class 1A Hinckley-Big Rock Regional, the No. 7-seeded Huskers advanced to Tuesday’s 5 p.m. semifinal against No. 2 Somonauk/Leland/Newark with the win over the No. 10 Red Raiders.

Easton Bucz (assist by Justin Delgado) and Ethan Stark (assist from Payton Twait) scored goals for Serena (9-14-3).

Elgin St. Edward 3, Sandwich 0: At Elgin in the Class 1A Mendota Regional, the Indians closed their season with a loss to the Green Wave.
