The driver of a passenger vehicle was killed when it collided with a Manhattan School District 114 bus carrying students Thursday morning in southeastern Will County.
The crash occurred about 8:17 a.m. near the intersection of Manhattan Monee Road and Kankakee Road, according to the Manhattan Fire Protection District.
The bus was carrying 10 students and one driver, according to the fire district.
All students and the driver were taken to area hospitals for evaluation as a precautionary measure, and all parents and guardians were contacted, the fire district said.
“All the students and the driver of the bus were taken to Silver Cross Hospital in good condition,” Manhattan Deputy Fire Chief David Piper said.
Piper said everyone on the bus suffered minor injuries, mostly cuts and bruises.
Children were reunited with their parents at the hospital, Piper said, and most, if not all, had been discharged by the early afternoon.

The Illinois State Police had the route closed until about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, when the bus got towed away.
The bus could be seen with severe front-end damage, while the remainder of the chassis around the seating area appeared intact.
As of 6 p.m., the Will County Coroner’s Office had not released the identity of the driver killed in the accident. State police at that time provided no details about the accident, including the make and model of the vehicle driven by the person killed in the accident.
Piper said the vehicle was a mid-sized car.
