KANKAKEE – A 24-year-old Manteno man wanted in connection with shooting a man in January in Limestone recently was arrested in Iowa.
Kankakee County Sheriff Mike Downey said in a news release that Gregory R. Tuggle was indicted by a Kankakee County grand jury Thursday for the charges of attempted murder in the first degree, home invasion and aggravated battery with a firearm.
Kankakee County Sheriff’s public information officer Trent Bukowski said Tuggle recently was arrested in Union, Iowa, in connection with drug charges and obstructing identification.
Union, Iowa, is 323 miles west of downtown Kankakee.
Tuggle awaits extradition to Kankakee County, Downey said.
“I sincerely commend the dedication and hard work,” Downey said in the release. “I also want to express my gratitude to the authorities in Union, Iowa, for their invaluable assistance and collaboration with our detectives in swiftly apprehending this dangerous individual.”
A Kankakee County arrest warrant was signed Jan. 31 by a circuit judge, according to court records.
On Jan. 27, Tuggle is accused of shooting a 19-year-old man multiple times at a residence in the 2500 block of West Route 17.
Deputies found the victim, who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the release.
Authorities were dispatched about 8:30 p.m. to the residence for a report of shots fired.
The victim remains hospitalized in a Chicago-area facility, according to the release.
