Kirkland library, historical society to host memorial program for Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglas

KIRKLAND - The public is invited to a program Sunday at the Kirkland Historical Society that will showcase memorials to Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglas.

According to a news release, the Kirkland Public Library and Kirkland Historical Society will host the program Memorials to Freedom at 2 p.m. at the Kirkland Historical Society, 309 South Fifth St. in Kirkland.

The program will look at how the legacies of Lincoln and Douglas were interpreted by the time that their memorials were dedicated to them. The program will then look at how both men contributed to the advancement of the ideals of the Declaration of Independence and their differences over racial equality.

All are welcome to attend the event. Masks will be required to attend.
