In a stunning display of resilience and determination, Sycamore senior Alyssa Stacy clinched dual medals at the state track meet and is the Daily Chronicle 2025 Girls Track Athlete of the Year.

Alyssa Stacy was stumped. For some reason, one she couldn’t figure out, the Sycamore sprinter couldn’t drop times on the track last year. Saturday, she earned Class 2A state medals in the two sprint races, while Genoa-Kingston's 4x100 relay also earned a state medal.

We take a look at all the area girls track qualifiers, including three-time qualifier Natasha Bianchi of Genoa-Kingston and two-time qualifier Alyssa Stacy of Sycamore.

Prairie Ridge, Johnsburg, Genoa-Kingston and Woodstock rounded out the top five teams at the Class 2A Genoa-Kingston Sectional Friday behind team champion Rockford Boylan, with all four schools sending athletes to next week's state meet in Charleston.

St. Charles North's Alexzandria Richardson and a pair of North Stars' relays were among the state qualifiers from Thursday's Class 3A Hoffman Estates Sectional, which was delayed several times because of lightning and clock issues.

Teams from Aurora Christian, Beecher, Dwight, Earlville, Hinckley-Big Rock, Kankakee-McNamara, Lisle, Momence, Newark, Marquette, Seneca, Indian Creek, Somonauk, Westmont, Wilmington and Yorkville all competed during the Class 1A Sectional track meet on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at Seneca High School.

Huntley, with 159 points, easily rolled to the Class 3A Huntley sectional championship Wednesday night. Dominique Johnson paced the Red Raiders with first-place efforts in the triple jump and long jump.
