Letters to the Editor | Bureau County Republican

Letter: I write as a now senior former resident, first of Bureau Township, and then of Princeton, and recalling my former Sunday School teacher Ted Duffield (former BCR editor), and having graduated as a member of the PHS class of 1961. But times marches on.

Letter to the editor: Me, I have a passion for words and I “love” to write. Take the word “passion” for instance. In 2004 the epic biblical drama “The Passion of the Christ” hit Americas theaters.

America has many inspirational monuments such as the Washington Monument, Mount Rushmore, the Lincoln Memorial, the Liberty Bell, our National Cemetery and many others. Princeton has Soldiers and Sailors Park and Flags of Freedom.

Our flag has nicknames: “the Stars and Stripes”, “Old Glory” and “the Star Spangled Banner.” A great heritage has been passed down to us since the founding of our nation.

We each have a unique identity; fingerprints, face recognition and DNA. But philosophically and spiritually what is it that people identify with in their search for purpose, wholeness, and happiness?

Letter: We have before us a choice: fear or faith. We do not have before us a choice between truth and love. Both are to be part of the Christian life.

Not everyone who lives in America is an American. Not everyone who says they are a Christian is a Christian. Going to church or owning a Bible does not make a person a Christian. What lens are we looking through as we look at our country?

We see much beauty in nature, in America’s majestic mountains, the Grand Canyon, our national parks, in America’s Constitution (a beautiful and precious document), in Mount Rushmore.

Foundations, history and questions. Jesus said, “Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on a rock (a solid foundation), but those who do not put them into practice are like foolish men (Matthew 7:24-26).

Recently I received news that a dear friend, a brother in Christ, had gone home to be with the Lord. Much of his life could be described in one word, “Suffering”.
