The following cases were considered by the Bureau County Grand Jury on Jan. 17.

If Bureau County residents will accept inmate transfers from Cook County, Sheriff Jim Reed thinks he can put two more deputies on patrol.

Lawyers for Chester Weger have termed it a “mini-trial” and said they’ll introduce evidence, not available decades ago, showing Weger was wrongly convicted of murder. The mini-trial begins May 12.

A Dalzell man has a jury trial set for Feb. 24 after allegedly setting a residence on fire with one or more people inside, according to court documents.

A Bureau County grand jury convened Dec. 18 and returned the following indictments:

A Spring Valley man charged with trying to bilk a La Salle bank out of more than $17,000 will stand trial March 24 on two felonies.

A Princeton man charged with six counts of possessing child sexual abuse images is scheduled for a March 31 jury trial after pleading not guilty to the charges.

A restoration hearing has been set for Jan. 24 in a Bureau County murder case that has been continued for more than two years because the man charged is undergoing mental health treatment and examinations.
