A suspect is in custody in Shorewood after two homes were struck by gunfire Tuesday morning, including the residence of State Senator Meg Loughran Cappel.

Northern Illinois University union members working on an expired contract picketed outside of President Lisa Freeman's office Tuesday, demanding higher pay. An NIU spokesperson said the union has rejected multiple offers, but some members said the offers don't match inflation.

By a 12-0 vote, the Kankakee City Council turned down a conditional use permit request by Fortitude Community Outreach to operate a homeless shelter.

The 44-year-old man who suffered multiple stab wounds in Joliet has been hospitalized in serious condition but his injuries are not considered life threatening, police said.

Shorewood Police were called to the scenes of shootings early Tuesday morning which left two homes damaged, but did not result in any injuries.

Manteno police arrested Jayvin J. Savoie, of Manteno, for allegedly shooting a person Sept. 5.

A manhunt is underway in Yorkville after a man fled from deputies at the Kendall County Courthouse this morning. No immediate safety threat to the community at this time, police said.
