Tracking the Chicago Bears’ 2025 53-man roster ahead of NFL cutdown deadline

Chicago Bears wide receiver Samori Toure avoids the tackle of Miami Dolphins linebacker Dequan Jackson Sunday, Aug. 10, 2025, during their game at Soldier Field in Chicago.

The preseason games are over, and now the Chicago Bears will have to make some tough choices as training camp comes to an end.

General manager Ryan Poles, head coach Ben Johnson and their staffs will have to decide which players to keep on their 53-man roster. They’ll need to cut down their roster down from 90 players before the NFL’s 3 p.m. deadline on Tuesday.

Here are the latest roster moves the Bears have made to reach Tuesday’s deadline. Check back in for all the latest moves over the next day.

Bears sign 15 to practice squad

The Bears signed 15 players to their practice squad Wednesday.

The team brought in wide receivers Maurice Alexander, Miles Boykin and JP Richardson, running back Brittain Brown, tight end Stephen Carlson, defensive ends Xavier Carlton, Tanoh Kpassagnon and Jamree Kromah, linebacker Power Echols, long snapper Luke Elkin, cornerbacks Tre Flowers and Mekhi Garner, defensive tackle Jonathan Ford, offensive linemen Jordan McFadden and Ricky Stromberg.

Bears claim cornerback, linebacker off waivers, release Devin Duvernay, Scott Daly

The Bears claimed two players Wednesday a day after cutdown day. They claimed cornerback Jaylon Jones and linebacker D’Marco Jackson. In order to make those claims, the Bears released long snapper Scott Daly and wide receiver punt returner Devin Duvernay.

Jones previously played with the Bears over the past three seasons where he became a role player on both defense and special teams. He played in 41 games and started five over three years in Chicago, totaling 85 tackles and forced fumble. Jones signed with the Arizona Cardinals in March and competed with the team until he was cut Tuesday.

Jackson spent the last three seasons with the New Orleans Saints after they selected him in the with fifth round in 2022. After missing his rookie season with an injury, he played in 27 games over two years. He had 26 tackles and mostly received special teams snaps.

He’ll reunite with Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, who was his former head coach with the Saints.

Bears release initial 53-man roster

The Bears released their initial 53-man roster Tuesday afternoon. They release and waived 17 players in order to reach that number.

Bears waive Zacch Pickens, Tyler Scott

The team reportedly made one of its bigger cuts of camp so far Tuesday when it waived defensive tackle Zacch Pickens. CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz was the first to report the move.

Poles drafted Pickens in the third round in 2023 after taking defensive tackle Gervon Dexter in the second round that year. But injuries and other factors played a role in Pickens never reaching his potential with the Bears. He played 26 games, starting three, over two seasons and had 1.5 sacks and four quarterback hits.

Wide receiver Tyler Scott was also waived by the team, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. The Bears drafted Scott in the fourth round in 2023 and flashed potential over the years. But the team’s wide receivers room became too crowded this camp, forcing Scott out.

Scott played in 28 games and caught 18 passes for 173 receiving yards over two seasons.

The Bears also reportedly released defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon and undrafted free agent long snapper Luke Elkin, according to the Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs.

Offensive lineman Ricky Stromberg released, wide receiver JP Richardson waived

Cutdown day started with the Bears reportedly releasing offensive lineman Ricky Stromberg and waiving wide receiver JP Richardson on Tuesday morning. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler was first to report Stromberg’s move while the Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs reported the news on Richardson.

Stromberg signed on to the Bears’ practice squad in November and then signed a reserve/future contract in January. The team has 13 offensive linemen left on the roster.

Richardson, an undrafted free agent, made a splash in his first week of training camp. But that fizzled as camp went on.

Bears place Zah Frazier on NFI, waive 8, release 3

The Bears continued to make roster moves Monday before their practice that afternoon.

The team placed rookie cornerback Zah Frazier on the reserve/non-football injury list. Frazier missed all of training camp with a personal matter after the Bears drafted him in the fifth round this April out of UTSA. Frazier was seen at Halas Hall before Wednesday’s practice being driven around the facility in a golf cart.

The Bears also waived quarterback Austin Reed, running back Ian Wheeler, safeties Millard Bradford and Alex Cook, cornerback Kaleb Hayes, defensive end Xavier Carlton and linebacker Power Echols. They also officially waived tight end Joel Wilson.

Reed spent last season as part of the Bears’ practice squad. That could still be an option this season depending on the severity of backup quarterback Case Keenum’s injury that’s kept him off the field the past couple of weeks. Wheeler tried to fight for a roster spot this past month after her tore his ACL at last year’s training camp.

Offensive lineman Joshua Miles, cornerback Tre Flowers and running back Royce Freeman were also released.

Tight end Joel Wilson waived

The Bears reportedly made their first cut of the day Monday morning by waiving tight end Joel Wilson. KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson was the first to report that Wilson was waived by the team.

Wilson signed with the Bears’ practice squad in October and signed a reserve/future contract with the team in January. He caught 11 passes for 85 yards during the preseason, including a touchdown in Friday’s last-second win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

The offense now has four tight ends left on the roster: Cole Kmet, rookie Colston Loveland, Durham Smythe and Stephen Carlson. The team is likely to keep three tight ends on the active roster.

Bears waive six players, place Terell Smith on reserve/injured list

The team started its roster cutdown Sunday by waiving six players.

The Bears waived linebacker Swayze Bozeman, offensive lineman Chris Glaser, tight end Thomas Gordon, safety Mark Perry, wide receiver Samori Toure and cornerback Jeremiah Walker.

They also officially placed cornerback Terell Smith on the reserve/injured list after he suffered a knee injury against the Buffalo Bills that will keep him out for the whole season.
